The nearby coastline stretches for over 250 km where 2 different seas (The Mar Menor and the Meditteranean) meet on one single coast. The Mar Menor (which means ‘little sea’ and is only 15 minutes away by car) is one of the safest seas in Europe for children due to its lagoon like qualities. This is because it is protected from the elements by a strip of land which makes it as calm as a harbour. Not only is it suitable for children but the Mar Menor is a fantastic location for watersports too, such as windsurfing, kite-surfing, jetskiing and sailing.
There are many other beautiful beaches to explore satisfying a complete range of tastes. The coastline offers impressive cliffs, sandunes, lively harbours and secluded coves such as Torre de la Horadada, Santiago de la Ribera, Los Alcazeras (there is also a Tourist Info Centre based here) and San Pedro del Pinatar.
